Junk Mail
It is difficult to turn off the flow of junk mail but you can slow it down. The Mailing Preference Service is a voluntary scheme organised by the Direct Marketing Association. Tessa Kelly, an associate director says “You can register your name and address and ask companies not to send you sales and marketing mail. It will take between two and four months for your name to disappear from every database” Registering once should stop junk mail for everyone with the same surname at an address. But this does not prevent companies writing to people who are already customers. To do this you must contact each firm directly and ask to be removed from their marketing list. The service cannot eliminate letters simply addressed to ‘The Occupier’. Call 020 7291 3310 to register for The Mailing Preference Service. The DMA also runs the telephone preference service (020 7291 3320) a free service for blocking unwanted calls.
