Top Neighbourly tips:
Being a good neighbour means being a considerate neighbour:

Make an effort to get to know your neighbours – starting a NHW scheme is a good way to do this.

Ask your neighbours to keep an eye on your house while you are away and offer to do the same for them.

If you trust your neighbour, give them a key to your house while you are on holiday so they can come in and open/draw the curtains for you, collect your post and even turn lights on and off. This will give the impression that your house is lived in and will deter burglaries.

Be vigilant. If you see someone acting suspiciously in your neighbourhood contact the police and warn your neighbours.

Keep an eye out for elderly or vulnerable neighbours who are often a target for bogus callers.

Review your own security. Consider using crime reduction products such as segment timers, dusk to dawn light bulbs and property markers. You can usually purchase these items from your local police station. You may even wish to arrange for someone from your local police station to give a talk to you and your neighbours on improving security in your home.

Arrange to take in a parcel for your neighbour when you know they will be out. This will avoid the package being left on the door step – a clear signal to criminals that the house is empty.

Support each other as a group to help combat problems such as Anti Social behaviour, fly tipping, abandoned vehicles etc.
