Age UK Milton Keynes has been working with and for older people in the borough of Milton Keynes since 1978. Around 10,000 older people take advantage of our services in Milton Keynes every year and this number is constantly growing. On 19th April 2010 Age Concern Milton Keynes became one of the first 25 Age Concern's in the country to join the Age UK partnership and is now known as "Age UK Milton Keynes". Powerful Information is a local charity working to empower communities in low income countries to tackle the root causes of poverty and injustice and reduce the impact of environmental degradation. We work with and through local partners to provide education and training, and we support practical grassroots initiatives that build social capital, promote social justice and raise public awareness of important social and environmental issues. Friends of Milton Keynes Hospital & CommunityThe success of the shops and café as we have expanded has allowed us to provide enough money to fund a range of projects including wheelchairs for main reception and the A & E department, quiet rooms for the relatives of patients in oncology and A & E departments, corridor seating, A & E seating and tables, toiletry packs to SRU ward 7 ACU ward 17 and A & E and Christmas donations to all wards and departments. Our shops and are run by members of staff together with a dedicated force of volunteers, who man the ward trolleys. Whose essential support is greatly appreciated. We also organise fundraising events throughout the year, run raffles at Easter and Christmas and hold the weekly stall in the main reception. In July 1999 we changed our constitution and name to reflect changes in the NHS as the Hospital Trust and the Primary Care Trust were set up. We became “Friends of Milton Keynes Hospital & Community” and have extended our work into the community of Milton Keynes. We are always looking to welcome new members to become “Friends” as volunteers and committee members.
